Benelli / New production adventure model

Benelli TRK 902 Xplorer: the production bike beyond the concept

The 904 cc Xplorer translates Benelli’s concept into a road-and-gravel production tourer with 19/17-inch wheels and adjustable suspension.

Meet the motorcycle

The Xplorer is the mixed-surface branch of the new TRK 902 family; the Stradale uses the same foundation with a stronger asphalt emphasis. A 2024 concept existed, so this is specifically an introduction to the production model reported in November 2025 for 2026. It is not a claim that the name or design first appeared in 2026.

Official production-model report; it explicitly follows the concept shown the previous year, with market arrival in 2026.

UNDER THE SURFACE

The changes, explained.

01

A new TRK platform, not simply a bigger old engine

The change

The production 902 uses a 904 cc twin with electronic throttles and a slipper clutch.

How it works

Electronic throttles allow the controller to shape requested torque. During abrupt deceleration a slipper clutch can relieve excessive back torque at the transmission, limiting one cause of rear-wheel disturbance.

What it means on a ride

These mechanisms support manageable road travel and repeated speed changes without making the engine or clutch automatic.

The consideration · More displacement does not establish better fuel economy. Compare measured consumption with similar load and route conditions.

02

The 19-inch front is a mixed-surface compromise

The change

The production Xplorer uses 19/17-inch tubeless spoked wheels with mixed-use tyres.

How it works

Wheel diameter changes obstacle approach and tyre availability. A 19-inch front sits between common 17-inch road and 21-inch trail choices, but the complete geometry and tyre construction determine handling.

What it means on a ride

It suits the family’s intent to connect tarmac touring with gravel-road exploration.

The consideration · This is not proof of enduro ability. Loose deep ground still calls for suitable tyres, technique and a realistic load.

03

Load adjustment and bump control remain separate

The change

Marzocchi suspension offers adjustment, with a remote rear preload control in the official production description.

How it works

Preload places the loaded suspension in its working range; damping controls how fast it moves. A convenient preload knob helps when switching between solo and passenger use, but does not change the spring rate.

What it means on a ride

The rider can preserve a more suitable attitude as luggage is added, before fine-tuning bump response.

The consideration · Travel and clearance still place physical limits on obstacles. Adjustability is useful only with a suitable baseline setting.

04

Electronics should reduce work without obscuring the road

The change

The production specification includes a 7-inch TFT, cruise, TPMS, quickshifter and heated comfort equipment.

How it works

Cruise holds a selected speed; TPMS reports tyre pressures; heating addresses cold exposure. These are different functions and none replaces normal tyre inspection or direct observation of traffic.

What it means on a ride

For long travel, the combination can reduce repetitive actions and make changes in tyre condition easier to notice.

The consideration · Navigation depends on compatible connectivity and apps. Verify local standard equipment, optional radar and screen controls separately.

Where it fits

The production Xplorer is a touring adventure machine with a clear mixed-surface specification. Assess it against that role rather than against photographs of the earlier concept. The practical decision is how often the route actually leaves asphalt and what load the chassis will carry.
