Meet the motorcycle
The production F 450 GS was presented in November 2025 after the 2024 concept. It is a new machine, rather than a smaller engine installed in a large GS. Its useful questions concern manageable mass, clutch operation and the equipment actually included in the chosen trim. The following implications are engineering interpretation of the published design, not impressions from riding it.
Date of the cited model-year announcement; not a claim about the first appearance of the model name.
The key numbers
| Item | Manufacturer specification |
|---|---|
| Engine | 420 cc parallel twin / 35 kW / 43 Nm |
| Ready-to-ride mass | 178 kg |
| Fuel / standard seat | 14 L / 845 mm |
| Wheel sizes | 19 in front / 17 in rear |
Manufacturer figures for the market stated above. Dry, wet and no-fuel weights use different definitions and should not be compared directly.
The changes, explained.
A new twin, rather than a power race
The A2-class engine uses a 135-degree crankpin offset and one balance shaft.
How it works
A balance shaft counters selected inertia forces; crank geometry also changes the timing of combustion pulses. Neither alone proves that a motorcycle will feel smooth at every speed.
What it means on a ride
Editorial implication: a compact engine and moderate output can make throttle management and low-speed placement more approachable than simply increasing peak power.
The consideration · Overtaking with luggage still depends on gear choice; A2 compliance is a power category, not an assurance of effortless performance.
Easy Ride Clutch: what it automates
ERC is standard on GS Trophy and available for other trims; Shift Assistant Pro is a separate part of the clutch-free-shift combination.
How it works
The centrifugal unit engages according to rpm. It remains connected on overrun, then opens near idle to avoid stalling; the lever remains available for manual intervention.
What it means on a ride
Editorial implication: fewer repeated lever movements can reduce workload in traffic or slow trails, while retaining a familiar gear pedal and engine-braking relationship.
The consideration · This is not an automatic gearbox. Riders still need to choose appropriate gears and learn the clutch behaviour before attempting difficult terrain.
Suspension is a trim decision
Sport and Trophy add a fork with compression and rebound adjustment; the rear shock also uses travel-dependent damping.
How it works
Compression damping resists compression speed, while rebound damping controls the return. Travel-dependent damping changes support as the shock moves through its stroke.
What it means on a ride
Editorial implication: a rider carrying luggage can work toward a more controlled response, rather than accepting a single fixed fork setting.
The consideration · Adjustment cannot compensate indefinitely for the wrong spring rate or excessive load; the base model does not have all these adjusters.
19/17 wheels and cornering assistance
The standard bike uses cast tubeless wheels; cross-spoke wheels are accessories. ABS Pro and traction aids are included.
How it works
A larger front wheel generally rolls over small edges more gradually. Lean-sensitive braking uses vehicle-state information to modulate intervention, within available tyre grip.
What it means on a ride
Editorial implication: the wheel choice fits mixed road use, with an equipment path for owners who value spoke-wheel construction.
The consideration · An electronic aid cannot create grip on loose surfaces; spoke wheels are not permission to ignore tyre pressure or impact loads.

Where it fits
The F 450 GS is most interesting as an accessible new platform. Compare the four equipment lists before deciding whether the ERC and adjustable fork matter to your own riding.
