Meet the motorcycle
This year’s announcement brings new graphics, frame colours and accents to the Africa Twin. It does not introduce a more powerful engine or a new suspension concept. An honest introduction therefore separates the visible model-year refresh from the underlying technology. The standard Africa Twin and its Electronic Suspension variant should also be distinguished: the letters ES describe equipment, rather than an entirely different engine.
Date of the cited model-year announcement; not a claim about the first appearance of the model name.
The key numbers
| Item | Manufacturer specification |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1,084 cc parallel twin / 75 kW / 112 Nm |
| Wheels | 21 in front / 18 in rear |
| Gearbox choices | 6-speed manual or DCT |
| 2026 change | New colours and graphics; mechanically unchanged |
Manufacturer figures for the market stated above. Dry, wet and no-fuel weights use different definitions and should not be compared directly.
The changes, explained.
A visual refresh with a clear boundary
Three revised paint schemes are announced for the Africa Twin and ES.
How it works
Paint, graphics and frame finish change appearance; they do not alter the combustion process, suspension motion ratio or available braking grip.
What it means on a ride
Editorial implication: an owner considering an older example should compare condition, equipment and servicing rather than assume the newer graphic package guarantees better riding performance.
The consideration · The absence of a mechanical change is not evidence that all market versions have identical accessories or delivery specifications.
The existing twin and DCT choice
The parallel twin and optional Dual Clutch Transmission continue.
How it works
DCT uses two clutch paths and can select gears automatically or accept rider commands. That differs from an automated clutch attached to a conventional rider-shifted gearbox.
What it means on a ride
Editorial implication: repeated traffic and touring shifts can require fewer actions. Manual and DCT owners should still use appropriate modes and understand low-speed response before technical terrain.
The consideration · A DCT description is not a promise of a particular shift at every instant; load, throttle and the selected programme affect behaviour.
ES changes damping, not the laws of loading
The regular model retains fully adjustable Showa suspension; ES uses Showa EERA.
How it works
Electronic damping adjusts resistance to suspension movement. Rear spring preload adjustment changes the starting position of the spring and the loaded ride height; these are different jobs.
What it means on a ride
Editorial implication: changing road surfaces and luggage can be accommodated with less manual adjustment, provided the rider still chooses suitable load settings.
The consideration · Spring capacity, tyre limits and total permitted load continue to apply. ES equipment should not be assumed on the standard version.
Off-road wheel size still shapes its role
The Africa Twin retains its 21-inch front wheel, separate from the Adventure Sports’ road-oriented 19-inch choice.
How it works
A larger rolling radius generally approaches edges more gradually, while tyre pattern and pressure determine much of the contact behaviour on loose ground.
What it means on a ride
Editorial implication: compare the two Africa Twin families by expected terrain and stopping confidence, not by assuming that the larger tank version is simply better in every respect.
The consideration · A large front wheel does not remove the mass of a litre-class travel motorcycle, especially during recovery or a tight turn.
A closer look at the hardware
Where it fits
For 2026, choose the Africa Twin for its established package and preferred gearbox, with new colours as an aesthetic choice. There is no substantiated mechanical leap in this announcement.
