KLE650 and SE: a 21-inch front wheel with a touring brief

A larger KLE combines a familiar twin with electronic throttle control; SE equipment changes daily convenience as much as trail preparation.

Meet the motorcycle

The interesting question is how often your journey alternates between open roads and a rough final approach. A motorcycle chosen only for its front wheel can still be awkward at a loaded stop. Read the KLE650 as a complete package: contact with the ground, control of speed, luggage and the work required when repairing a tyre far from town.

Announced before EICMA 2026 and shown as a 2027 model. Standard and SE equipment are separated below. No independent ride test is claimed.

UNDER THE SURFACE

The changes, explained.

01

More control over the twin

The change

The larger engine is paired with ride-by-wire.

How it works

An electronic throttle translates grip movement into a requested engine response; the calibration determines how smoothly that request arrives.

What it means on a ride

With luggage on a bend, a repeatable response matters more than repeatedly using the highest available output. Try low-speed pickup in the gear you actually use.

The consideration · Electronic control does not establish a measured improvement in fuel economy or traction.

02

Wheel diameter and useful clearance

The change

The front wheel is larger than the rear.

How it works

A larger radius changes the approach angle to a sharp edge. Suspension compression and tyre deformation still determine the impact reaching the chassis.

What it means on a ride

Look for a line that leaves room under the bike and avoids exposing the rim to a direct edge hit.

The consideration · A wheel choice alone says little about deep sand, mud or safe water depth.

03

Travel is not a suspension setting

The change

The chassis provides substantial suspension movement.

How it works

Spring support sets loaded ride height; damping manages the speed of movement. More travel does not replace either task.

What it means on a ride

Measure sag with your usual luggage and check repeated bumps rather than judging comfort from one large compression.

The consideration · An overloaded rear can reduce steering margin even when the suspension has not bottomed.

04

Why the SE tyre package matters

The change

SE receives tubeless tyres and extra protective equipment.

How it works

An external puncture repair may be possible for some tread injuries, but damage location and tyre instructions determine the permitted repair.

What it means on a ride

Match your repair kit to the actual wheel specification; carry a pump and inspect the tyre after any temporary repair.

The consideration · A skid plate is not a guarantee that every underside component tolerates a strike.

05

Cruise and seat height across a long day

The change

Cruise is part of the touring package; the SE adds further convenience.

How it works

Speed holding reduces one repeated hand task, while foot reach and seat width shape the effort of stopping.

What it means on a ride

Try a loaded stop on uneven ground and judge wind comfort with your own helmet before choosing the trim.

The consideration · Cruise requires attention and suitable conditions; a nominal seat-height number cannot establish fit.

Long journeys, different surfaces

Motorway transfers

Set a sustainable pace and leave breaks in the day. Confirm wind noise and luggage stability rather than treating cruise as endurance.

Mountain asphalt

Keep braking and gear selection settled before a tight bend; do not let a tall stance hide how much luggage is behind you.

Maintained gravel

Use clear sight lines and leave space for the front tyre to find grip. Check the fitted tyre rather than relying on the ADV badge.

Broken access roads

Account for loaded sag at ledges and washouts. Walk an uncertain crossing before committing.

Two-up travel

Check the permitted combined load, preload and luggage limits. A convenient SE option does not increase payload by itself.

Price & budget

Published prices are identified by country. Where a tariff has not been confirmed, no numerical estimate is substituted for a manufacturer price.

Official prices and clearly labelled estimates
Market / statusPrice
Germany · official base pricesKLE650 €8,495; SE €9,995, excluding delivery
Germany · including delivery€8,920 / €10,420; standard March, SE February 2027
Mainland ChinaPrice and launch not confirmed

Check the delivered-market specification and a written quotation including registration, delivery and accessories. Prices in one country do not establish availability or a converted retail price in another.

Where it fits

Choose between trims through tyre repair strategy, instrument needs and comfort equipment, then test loaded balance. A mixed route rewards a usable whole more than a single specification.
