KTM / New rally-travel model

690 Rally: the LC4 platform takes the longer way.

A rally cockpit and larger fuel provision turn an Enduro R foundation toward longer-distance off-road travel.

Meet the motorcycle

The new 690 Rally brings a factory long-range interpretation to KTM’s LC4 single-cylinder platform. It sits between a conventional lightweight enduro and a larger multi-cylinder adventure tourer in purpose. The name recalls the travel spirit of the 640 Adventure, but the mechanical comparison should start with the current 690 Enduro R on which the new model is based.

First announced on 8 September 2026 as a 2027 model, with dealer availability announced for October 2026. It qualifies through its 2026 calendar-year debut.

UNDER THE SURFACE

The changes, explained.

01

A factory rally tower changes the travel interface

The change

A purpose-built rally tower with integrated windscreen is part of the new model, rather than an owner-added conversion kit.

How it works

A screen redirects airflow around the rider, while a tower locates the instruments and supports in a stable position. How turbulent air reaches a helmet depends on rider height and the full cockpit geometry.

What it means on a ride

The intended gain is a more useful interface for long liaison sections and off-road travel, without requiring the rider to assemble the entire front end from separate parts.

The consideration · Extra structure needs inspection after a fall. A rally appearance alone does not make a motorcycle a competition rally machine.

02

Around 20 litres brings range and packaging trade-offs

The change

Dual front-mounted fuel tanks increase the stated total fuel provision to approximately 20 litres.

How it works

More fuel permits a longer potential interval between refuelling, but the added liquid also changes carried mass and its distribution as the tanks empty. Tank shape matters as well as total capacity.

What it means on a ride

The practical advantage is greater planning flexibility on remote routes. Range still needs to be estimated from real consumption and a reserve, not from capacity alone.

The consideration · Fully fuelled handling and lifting effort differ from the quoted no-fuel weight. Carrying every litre is a trip-specific decision.

03

Long suspension travel supports an off-road purpose

The change

The specification lists WP XPLOR suspension, with 265 mm front travel and 250 mm rear travel, and a rear linkage arrangement.

How it works

Travel provides room for wheel movement; springs support load and damping controls movement speed. Large travel does not by itself establish spring suitability for a particular rider and luggage weight.

What it means on a ride

The setup is aimed at uneven terrain rather than low-seat convenience. Correct sag lets useful travel remain available in both compression and extension.

The consideration · The 935 mm seat is a substantial fit consideration. Lowering modifications can change clearance and geometry.

04

A single-cylinder foundation, with realistic touring expectations

The change

The motorcycle uses the 692.7 cc LC4 single-cylinder platform. The new travel equipment does not turn it into a multi-cylinder highway tourer.

How it works

Cylinder arrangement, reciprocating mass and balance systems shape vibration and response. A narrower engine package can be useful off-road, while sustained road comfort depends on gearing, mounting, seat and rider sensitivity.

What it means on a ride

The appeal is an off-road-centred travel tool with factory range and cockpit provision. Evaluate sustained-speed comfort for your own balance of asphalt and trail.

The consideration · Factory figures are not an independent comfort or durability test. Confirm service schedules and payload in the manual.

Where it fits

The 690 Rally is for riders who want an off-road platform prepared for longer distances and accept its very tall seat. Its factory integration is the main change; the rider still needs to plan fuel, load and fit carefully.
