2027 Tiger 1200: a lower stop, a longer horizon

A new road-focused wheel package, self-lowering Showa suspension and radar assistance reshape the big Tiger. Here is how the four versions fit a real journey.

Meet the motorcycle

A large adventure bike earns its place when it makes a loaded day easier: leaving a sloping hotel car park, riding an unfamiliar mountain pass, then spending hours between cities. The 2027 Tiger 1200 addresses that routine with a notably more road-oriented chassis and extensive standard touring equipment. GT Pro, Rally Pro, GT Explorer and Rally Explorer share the new technical platform. Choose the wheel construction and fuel capacity to match the route, rather than assuming the Rally name promises the previous bike’s wheel geometry.

Revealed on 27 October 2026 before EICMA; this is the new MY27 family, separate from the MY26 Alpine/Desert editions. UK deliveries are announced from December 2026. Manufacturer specifications below are separated from editorial route analysis.

UNDER THE SURFACE

The changes, explained.

01

The Rally also moves to 19 inches

The change

All four versions now share 19/17-inch wheels and 200 mm suspension travel.

How it works

Wheel diameter influences how a tyre meets a step, while width, tyre construction and chassis geometry also shape steering. A spoked rim alone does not reproduce the obstacle behaviour of a larger front wheel.

What it means on a ride

On a trip dominated by paved passes, a consistent road tyre package makes sense. The rider can prioritize accurate corner entry, braking feel and predictable loaded road behaviour.

The consideration · Deep sand, ruts and repeated rock steps deserve a different assessment. Do not carry over conclusions from the old 21-inch Rally.

02

A stop-height system, not a lighter motorcycle

The change

HEIGHTFLEX lowers the seat by 30 mm as the bike stops in road modes; centre-stand assistance raises the rear temporarily.

How it works

Hydraulic control changes ride height for the stop and restores the moving position when setting off. The seat also has two mechanical positions.

What it means on a ride

Two-up riders should find the lowered stop position useful at queues and toll booths. Before a tour, test the actual stopping sequence with luggage and the boots you will wear.

The consideration · Rally Explorer remains a 268 kg wet motorcycle before riders and luggage. Choose a parking direction that allows a forward exit; seat height does not cancel sideways momentum.

03

More useful control between walking pace and overtaking

The change

The triple gains 8 PS; revised engine parts, low gears and driveline refinement accompany the headline output.

How it works

Lower gearing changes wheel torque at a given engine speed. A smoother transition between driving and coasting can reduce the effort of balancing a loaded bike through a slow turn.

What it means on a ride

For mountain travel, plan overtakes with a suitable gear and a clear exit. Peak power cannot make a blind bend or a short visible gap safe.

The consideration · Shaft drive removes routine chain lubrication, but needs its own inspection and scheduled servicing. It is not maintenance-free.

04

Radar helps with workload, not route judgement

The change

Radar assistance, including adaptive cruise and blind-spot support, is standard across the new range.

How it works

Radar tracks surrounding objects; control software uses throttle and braking where the selected function permits. Alerts communicate a risk rather than guaranteeing that the path is clear.

What it means on a ride

On long motorway transfers, maintaining a deliberate following gap can reduce repeated speed corrections. Check settings after changing modes and remain ready to take over.

The consideration · Treat hairpins, loose gravel, spray, cut-ins and obscured sensors as situations requiring full manual attention. No self-driving claim is made.

05

A travelling cockpit with fewer improvised mounts

The change

A 7-inch connected display, cooled phone compartment and redesigned adaptive headlight accompany new bodywork.

How it works

A connected display moves compatible navigation information into the instrument area. Phone cooling and charging address sustained screen use, but do not create mobile coverage.

What it means on a ride

Download offline maps before remote travel, check the phone fit and cable, and test the windscreen with your own helmet. A few hours of turbulence can matter more than a specification headline.

The consideration · Connectivity depends on compatible devices. A higher screen is not automatically quieter, and additional electronics require fault diagnosis on a remote trip.

Long journeys, different surfaces

Motorways, two-up and loaded

Explorer adds fuel capacity rather than a different engine. Choose it when fuel gaps justify the weight and bulk; make luggage weight, tyre pressures and suspension setup part of departure checks. Stop for rest before discomfort becomes loss of concentration.

Paved mountain passes

Prefer measured entry speed and a gear that avoids abrupt throttle changes. Keep the front wheel away from loose material at the outside edge, and practise loaded low-speed turns before departure.

Broken tarmac and compact gravel

Semi-active damping can help control body movement, but cannot remove a pothole. On gravel, leave space for braking and choose tyres for the least forgiving section, within their load and speed ratings.

Mud, deep sand and rocky steps

A tall, heavy touring platform asks for strength, technique and a sensible retreat plan. Do not turn an unfamiliar rough trail into a test of a fully loaded motorcycle. Scout uncertain sections and reduce the load where appropriate.

Rain, night and cold

Treat radar and cornering lighting as extra information. Reduce speed for the distance you can actually see, watch painted markings and wet leaves, and keep enough thermal reserve to operate the controls precisely.

Price & budget

UK launch prices are confirmed; the China numbers below are editorial planning estimates, not a converted UK quotation or a dealer offer.

Official prices and clearly labelled estimates
Market / statusPrice
UK · official starting pricesGT Pro £18,295; Rally Pro £18,995; GT Explorer £19,875; Rally Explorer £20,575
China · editorial estimateRMB 180,000–230,000 across the range

The China band uses a premium imported flagship position and the UK range’s approximately 12.5% entry-to-top spread, allowing a broad margin for local pricing. It is not derived from a current China MSRP. Tax, exchange rates, specification and importer policy can move the outcome outside the band; registration, insurance and luggage are excluded.

Where it fits

Choose the GT when the journey is mainly paved; choose Rally for the wheel construction and additional off-road equipment, with the new 19-inch front wheel clearly understood. Choose Explorer when the route needs its fuel capacity. Above all, test full-load stopping and parking, wind protection and passenger space before deciding. The promising changes are about reducing work across an entire day; their real effectiveness still needs independent riding evaluation.
