The road & its landscape
The R105 approach to Tafraoute trades the Souss plain for the rocky folds of the Anti-Atlas. Fortified settlements, bare ridges and the granite setting of the Ammeln valley give it a distinctive inhabited mountain landscape.
The regional tourism board identifies R104 and R105 between Tafraoute, Tizourgane and Aït Baha. Keep unverified mountain shortcuts out of the main line.
Scenery along the road
Above Aït Baha the road climbs into rougher terrain. Tizourgane introduces a fortified village above the surrounding slopes. The later approach turns towards the Ammeln valley and Tafraoute, where houses and granite masses share the foreground.
Aït Baha mountain approach
The road leaves the lower plain and winds among dry ridges and small settlements.
Tizourgane and Ida Ougnidif
The fortified village and rocky slopes make an identifiable landscape stop; the village visit begins after parking.
Ammeln valley and Tafraoute
Granite masses and pink-toned buildings fill the valley approach, with mountain ridges set behind them.
Road conditions & preparation
Confirm current surfaces, road works and local access on R105/R104. Plan fuel and water from towns and allow for narrow bends and slow local traffic. Painted-rock and gorge excursions use different roads and are assessed separately.
